Anidulafungin for injection

FDA Approval: February 2006
Indication: Candidemia; esophageal candidiasis; intra-abdominal abcess and peritonitis due to Candida infection
Pharmacology: Echinocandin antifungal agent
Usual Dose: Candidemia and Candida infections:  200 mg IV on day 1, followed by 100 mg daily

Esophageal candidiasis:  100 mg IV on day 1, followed by 50 mg daily

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to echinocandins or any ingredients
Warnings: Do not exceed maximum recommended infusion rate of 1.1 mg/minute

Monitor closely if liver function test abnormalities occur; consider risk vs. benefit of continuing drug if liver function deteriorates

Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients

Lactation: administer only if potential benefit outweighs risk

Pregnancy Category: C
Side Effects: Rash, urticaria, flushing, pruritus, dyspnea, hypotension

Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting

Elevated ALT, AST, GGT, alkaline phosphatase

Neutropenia, leukopenia

Hypokalemia

Deep vein thrombosis, phlebitis

Headache, pyrexia

Drug Interactions: cyclosporine
