Doripenem for injection

FDA Approval: October 2007
Indication: Complicated intra-abdominal and urinary tract infections
Pharmacology: Carbapenem
Usual Dose: Adults: 500 mg IV every 8 hours
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to doripenem, carbapenem

Anaphylaxis to beta-lactams

Warnings: Renal impairment: reduce dose

May cause Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea

Concurrent sodium valproate/valproic acid: Doripenem may reduce serum concentrations resulting in loss of seizure control; monitor valproic acid serum concentrations and adjust dose

Do not administer by inhalation:  Pneumonitis has been reported

Lactation: Use caution

Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients

Pregnancy Category: B
