| Indication: |
Severe oral mucositis in patients with hematologic malignancies receiving myelotoxic therapy |
| Pharmacology: |
Recombinant human keratinocyte growth factor |
| Usual Dose: |
60 mcg/kg IV bolus daily for 6 doses administered on 3 consecutive days prior to and 3 consecutive days after myelotoxic therapy |
| Contraindications: |
Hypersensitivity to E coli derived proteins or any ingredient |
| Warnings: |
Safety and efficacy not established in patients with nonhematologic malignancies Potential for stimulation of tumor growth Patients should be advised to report any adverse reaction to their physician IV incompatibility: If heparinized IV line is used, rinse with saline before and after palifermin administration Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients |

| Side Effects: |
rash, erythema, edema, pruritus oral dysesthesia, tongue discoloration, tongue thickening, taste alteration pain arthralgias, dysesthesia serum lipase and amylase elevations hypertension proteinuria |
| Drug Interactions: |
Do not administer within 24 hours before, after, or during myelotoxic chemotherapy because increased severity and duration of oral mucositis may occur |
