Indication: |
Metastatic/relapsed breast cancer after failure of other chemotherapy |
|
Pharmacology: |
Antimicrotubule antineoplastic agent |
|
Usual Dose: |
260 mg/m² IV over 30 minutes every 3 weeks |
|
Contraindications: |
Baseline neutrophils <1500 cells/mm³ |
|
Warnings: |
Dose-dependent bone marrow suppression is the dose-limiting toxicity
Monitor blood counts frequently
Do not readminister until neutrophils >1500 cells/mm³ and platelets
>100,000 cells/mm³
Safety unknown in patients with serum bilirubin >1.5 mg/dL or creatinine
>2 mg/dL
Drug contains human albumin - theoretical risk of CJD transmission
Withhold treatment if Grade 3 sensory neuropathy develops and reduce
subsequent doses
Monitor closely for extravasation
Men should not father a child and women should avoid pregnancy during
treatment
Discontinue breastfeeding during treatment
Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
