Indication: |
Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients
with type 2 diabetes mellitus. |

Pharmacology: |
A DPP-4 inhibitor which slows the inactivation of incretin hormones
(e.g., glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent
insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)). It decreases glucagon
levels and increases insulin release. |

Usual Dose: |
100 mg orally once daily. |

Contraindications: |
None known |
|
Warnings: |
Dosage adjustment is recommended in patients with moderate renal
insufficiency (CrCl ≥30 to
<50 mL/min), patients with
severe renal insufficiency (CrCl <30 mL/min),
or with ESRD requiring hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. It should
not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the
treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. |

Monotherapy: nasopharyngitis Combination with Pioglitazone:
Upper respiratory tract infection and headache. |

Monitor patients on digoxin. |
