Telbivudine tablets

FDA Approval: October 25, 2006
Indication: Chronic hepatitis B
Pharmacology: Thymidine nucleoside analogue
Usual Dose: 16 years and older:  600 mg orally once a day
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
Warnings: Hepatitis B exacerbations have occurred after stopping drug

Monitor patients for signs of myopathy

Reduce dose in renal insufficiency (CrCl<50 mL/min)

Safety and efficacy not established in liver transplant patients or children

Nucleoside analogues have been associated with lactic acidosis and severe hepatomegaly/steatosis

Mothers should not breastfeed during treatment

Pregnancy Category: B
Side Effects: Fatigue, malaise, pyrexia

Arthralgia, muscle-related symptoms

Abdominal pain, diarrhea, gastritis

Cough

Headache
